❌ Not Accepted
Any clothing (baby or maternity), except formal maternity dresses.
Used breast pumps, bottle nipples, or feeding items.
Postpartum or breastfeeding supplies — these are given away for free and not consigned.
Breastfeeding pillows — low resale value ($20 or less).
Diaper pails.
Car seats that have been in an accident, have missing parts, visible wear, or expire within 24 months.
Toys.
Any items with strong odors, stains, or pet hair.
Do you consign baby or maternity clothing?
No — clothing isn’t part of our consignment program.
Most baby clothes in the store are priced between $1 and $3, which makes consignment impractical.
Maternity and baby clothing are accepted as donations only, except formal maternity dresses.
How much do consigned items sell for?
Most used items resell for 20–40% of their original retail value, even when they’re in great shape.
Large furniture pieces like cribs, changing tables, and strollers usually sell closer to 20%.
New, unopened items can sell for around 50–60% of retail value.
How does the payout work?
Consignment is a 50/50 split.
You’ll receive 50% of the selling price once your item sells.
Payouts are available 1 week after the sale by Venmo, PayPal, or Cash.
How long do you keep consigned items?
Items are listed for 90 days.
If your item doesn’t sell in that time, you can either pick it up or donate it back to the store.
What if an item doesn’t meet your standards?
If an item is recalled, unsafe, incomplete, or not in sellable condition, it will be declined and returned to you.
Any recalled or unsafe item must be disposed of properly.
Do you accept cribs, strollers, or changing tables?
Yes, but please note that these items sell for much less than other items — usually around 20% of retail.
They must be fully assembled, clean, safe, and include all parts.
Can I exchange baby clothes for other items?
No — the only active exchange program is for maternity clothing in return for baby items.
Exchanges do not apply to consignment or vendor items.
How does the maternity clothing exchange work?
You can bring in freshly washed, gently used maternity clothing and receive store credit toward baby items. The items will be reviewed in the store, and you will be offered an amount in store credit.
Clothing that’s been stored in bags for long periods (and smells musty) can’t be accepted.
Is Moonchild a nonprofit?
Moonchild Maternity Exchange (the store) is operated by Moonchild Maternity, LLC. Our charitable partner, the Shared With Love Foundation (501(c)(3)), handles donations and free distributions. All public sales are by the LLC.
Are my purchases tax-deductible?
No. Purchases are from Moonchild Maternity, LLC and aren’t tax-deductible. Only gifts to the Shared With Love Foundation (EIN: 39-3182209) are charitable contributions.
Are diapers part of the exchange?
No — diapers are part of the Diaper Pantry program, and not used as an exchange.
We accept diaper donations and provide packs of 10 for families who need a little help during the week for free.
💛 Postpartum Supplies Accepted for Redistribution (Not for Resale)
Moonchild accepts certain postpartum and feeding supplies that cannot be resold but are redistributed free of charge to moms who need them.
These items help support our community and keep useful products out of the trash.
We accept the following for redistribution:
Breast pumps (used or new, as long as they are clean and functional)
Breast milk storage bags (open boxes are fine)
Nursing pads (open packages okay)
Postpartum pads and mesh underwear
Peri bottles (unused only)
Nipple creams, lanolin, and breast care items (open is fine if clean and uncontaminated)
Maternity or postpartum support belts and wraps
Reusable breast pads
Formula samples, bottles, or feeding accessories.
Miscellaneous postpartum care supplies (anything clean and safe that hasn’t directly touched a body)
Please Note
These items are not sold — they are donated and distributed to moms in need through the store.
Anything that is visibly dirty, contaminated, or unsafe will be disposed of properly.
Used peribottles, soiled items, or personal hygiene products cannot be accepted.
What items can’t you take?
We cannot accept:
Toys of any kind are not resold in the store.
Items with strong odors, stains, or pet hair.
🚫 Items That Are Illegal to Resell or Donate-
1. Drop-Side Cribs
Banned by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in 2011.
It’s illegal to sell, donate, or give away any drop-side crib — even if it “still works fine.”
2. Crib Mattresses That Don’t Meet Flammability or Size Standards
If it’s missing its original tag, label, or safety info, you legally can’t resell it.
Homemade or cut mattresses also fall into this category.
3. Recalled Items of Any Kind
It’s illegal to sell any recalled product, even secondhand.
This includes recalled Bumbo seats without the belt, Fisher-Price Rock ’n Plays, infant sleepers, or any product under an active recall notice.
4. Car Seats Past Expiration or Involved in an Accident
Federal safety law: expired, recalled, or damaged seats cannot be resold or donated.
Even if they “look fine,” they legally must be destroyed.
5. Padded Crib Bumpers
Banned nationally as of May 2022 under the Safe Sleep for Babies Act.
Illegal to manufacture, import, or sell — even if new in package.
6. Inclined Sleepers / Sleep Positioners / Rock ’n Plays
Fully banned under the same 2022 federal law.
Includes Fisher-Price Rock ’n Play, Kids2 Rocking Sleeper, and any inclined product marketed for infant sleep.
7. Any Product That Fails to Meet ASTM Safety Standards for Infant Sleep
Includes homemade or non-certified bassinets, cradles, or sleeping wedges.
8. Recalled High Chairs, Walkers, or Swings
Must verify each against current recall lists (CPSC.gov keeps an updated database).
Selling recalled gear, even unknowingly, can lead to fines.
9. Recalled Breastfeeding or Feeding Items
Bottles, nipples, formula accessories, or pumps under active recall cannot be redistributed or sold.
Do I need an appointment to drop things off?
No appointment is needed — you can drop off items anytime during store hours.
If you’re bringing large items, please come at least 30 minutes before closing so we can review them.
