Frequently Asked Questions 🌙

Do you pay cash for items?

No. We are a small family business and do not currently have the extra funding to pay cash for items. I can offer store credit, typically about 20% of retail for like-new items. I will also consign items and sell them in store, sharing the profit 50/50. Hopefully, in the future we will have the income to pay cash, but right now that isn’t feasible.

How does the exchange work?

You can bring in freshly washed, gently used maternity and baby clothing and receive store credit toward other items. The items will be reviewed in the store, and you will be offered an amount in store credit. Clothing that’s been stored in bags for long periods (and smells musty) won’t be offered store credit. Vendor and consignment items cannot be purchased with store credit.

Are diapers part of the exchange?

No — Diapers are always offered for free, and cannot be used for store credit.
We accept diaper donations and provide packs of 10 for families who need a little help for free.

💛 Postpartum Supplies Accepted for Redistribution (Not for Resale)

Moonchild accepts certain postpartum and feeding supplies that cannot be resold but are redistributed free of charge to moms who need them.
These items help support our community and keep useful products out of the trash.

We accept the following for redistribution:

  • Breast pumps (used or new, as long as they are clean and functional)

  • Breast milk storage bags (open boxes are fine)

  • Nursing pads (open packages okay)

  • Postpartum pads and mesh underwear

  • Peri bottles (unused only)

  • Nipple creams, lanolin, and breast care items (open is fine if clean and uncontaminated)

  • Maternity or postpartum support belts and wraps

  • Reusable breast pads

  • Formula samples, bottles, or feeding accessories.

  • Miscellaneous postpartum care supplies (anything clean and safe that hasn’t directly touched a body)

Please Note

  • These items are not sold — they are donated and distributed to moms in need through the store.

  • Anything that is visibly dirty, contaminated, or unsafe will be disposed of properly.

  • Used peribottles, soiled items, or personal hygiene products cannot be accepted.

What items can’t you take?

We cannot accept:

  • Toys of any kind are not resold in the store.

  • Items with strong odors, stains, or pet hair.

  • 🚫 Items That Are Illegal to Resell or Donate-

    1. Drop-Side Cribs

    • Banned by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in 2011.

    • It’s illegal to sell, donate, or give away any drop-side crib — even if it “still works fine.”

    2. Crib Mattresses That Don’t Meet Flammability or Size Standards

    • If it’s missing its original tag, label, or safety info, you legally can’t resell it.

    • Homemade or cut mattresses also fall into this category.

    3. Recalled Items of Any Kind

    • It’s illegal to sell any recalled product, even secondhand.

    • This includes recalled Bumbo seats without the belt, Fisher-Price Rock ’n Plays, infant sleepers, or any product under an active recall notice.

    4. Car Seats Past Expiration or Involved in an Accident

    • Federal safety law: expired, recalled, or damaged seats cannot be resold or donated.

    • Even if they “look fine,” they legally must be destroyed.

    5. Padded Crib Bumpers

    • Banned nationally as of May 2022 under the Safe Sleep for Babies Act.

    • Illegal to manufacture, import, or sell — even if new in package.

    6. Inclined Sleepers / Sleep Positioners / Rock ’n Plays

    • Fully banned under the same 2022 federal law.

    • Includes Fisher-Price Rock ’n Play, Kids2 Rocking Sleeper, and any inclined product marketed for infant sleep.

    7. Any Product That Fails to Meet ASTM Safety Standards for Infant Sleep

    • Includes homemade or non-certified bassinets, cradles, or sleeping wedges.

    8. Recalled High Chairs, Walkers, or Swings

    • Must verify each against current recall lists (CPSC.gov keeps an updated database).

    • Selling recalled gear, even unknowingly, can lead to fines.

    9. Expired Formula and Baby Food

    • Any formula that is past its expiration date (or past 30 days if opened) cannot be used safely and must be disposed of.

Do I need an appointment to drop things off?

No appointment is needed — you can drop off items anytime during store hours.
If you’re bringing large items, please come at least 30 minutes before closing so we can review them.
